Shippensburg University is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the operation, development, and maintenance of Mechanical and Civil Engineering laboratories. This position is responsible for laboratory setup, equipment procurement and installation, equipment operation and maintenance, safety procedures, and instructional support. Key responsibilities include setting up, operating, maintaining, and repairing laboratory equipment; developing and implementing laboratory safety procedures; scheduling and conducting laboratory sessions; assisting students with course assignments; supporting student projects, research activities, and engineering competitions; and collaborating with faculty and department administration on laboratory and instructional needs. The position also participates in student recruitment activities by showcasing laboratory facilities and hands-on learning opportunities. Laboratory areas include materials and manufacturing, materials testing, engines and machines, thermodynamics and fluids, structural materials, geotechnical/soil, and water resources. Equipment includes CNC lathes and mills, welding and fabrication equipment, engines, pumps, turbines, testing systems, concrete and soil testing equipment, and water quality instrumentation Qualified candidates must have an Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, hands-on technical or mechanical experience in machining and welding, the ability to create and read sketches using engineering graphics software, strong interpersonal skills, and an understanding of safety measures required by Pennsylvania Labor & Industry. The successful candidate should have a flexible schedule and may occasionally work evenings and weekends to support student needs.
